Patch Cables & Possibilities: An Intro to Modular Synthesis with VCV Rack This hands-on workshop is a practical and playful introduction to modular sound synthesis and electronic sound creation using VCV Rack, a free modular synth emulator for Mac, Windows, and Linux. In a single day, we'll journey together from your very first sound to building out rich textures, drum machines, and generative ambient patches. Using nothing but the free, open-source virtual modular synthesizer VCV Rack, we'll discover the joy of creating sound from the ground up using the building blocks behind nearly all electronic music. Whether you're an experienced sound designer, a curious music fan, or a visual artist hunting for audio inspiration, this workshop will take you from your first patch cable to to designing sounds and systems that surprise you - and give you the vocabulary, instincts, and confidence to keep exploring long after the day ends. No prior experience required. Just bring a laptop with VCV Rack installed, a pair of headphones, and a sense of curiosity. — Ryan Smith is a musician, producer, DJ, and Label Manager.
