At Herbst Theatre, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale brings music to life on period instruments—gut strings, wooden flutes, and valveless brass—and in the style of the time, creating a sound that's close to what audiences would have heard when this music was new. The 2026/27 season marks the arrival of Peter Whelan as Music Director, beginning with a special summer project, a semi-staged production of Handel's Tolomeo , featuring a star-studded cast led by countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen. The main subscription concert series opens in the fall with Alexander's Feast , following Whelan's acclaimed appearances at the 2025 BBC Proms with the Irish Baroque Orchestra.
